How does your algorithm work?
Our algorithm works by estimating how attention flows between accounts. The way we do this is not only by looking at who follows you but also who follows them and so on. The more attention you receive from a group of people, the higher your status in this group.
We also elaborate on individual updates to the algorithm in the following announcements.
What does the Attention score mean?
It is an approximation of one's status in the group. The higher your share in the collective attention, the more influence you can exert over the group.
What does the Insider score mean?
It is an approximation of whether an average community member would consider you "one of us" or not. The higher your Insider score, the more people would think you are "one of us."
This score is not perfect. We are hard at work trying to improve it. One of the issues we are working to resolve is that accounts with many followers generally receive lower scores than they should.
How can I rank higher?
You can improve your ranking by making more people pay attention to you. There are many ways to do that. For example, creating helpful content, starting a successful project, or accepting a personal risk to benefit a group.
Can your algorithm be gamed?
You cannot game the algorithm by creating fake accounts. If you made a million bots that would follow each other, and then they all would follow you – the impact on your Attention score would be 0. Our model is Sybil-resistant.
Is your algorithm open-source?
No, but we may open-source some part of it in the future. We also intend to decentralize control over the algorithm over time.
Are you going to index other platforms?
Yes, and not only social media platforms. We plan to index podcasts and NFTs next.
